Kids back to school, cooler weather, and football means fall is here. Leaves’ changing their color is probably the most thought of example of fall. Foliage is great… on trees.
When the leaves start falling, they can leave you a big mess. Whether the leaves are from your trees or a neighbor’s, it is important to keep the exterior of your home clear of leaves. If leaves tend to pile up on any areas of your roof, specifically valleys… this can lead to roof problems. Gutters tend to be the resting place of most fallen leaves. Once a gutter gets clogged with leaves, that then get wet… causing draining water to get backed up. This will lead to gutter board, soffit, roof, and or gutter damages. The weight of wet leaves in a gutter with backed up water can be too much for your 5” or 6” gutters to withstand, creating an ever worsening sag or the gutters to just come unfastened. Leaves are always much easier to clean/ blow out or off your roof or gutters when dry. If they get wet, grab some gloves.
If keeping gutters clean sounds like an awful chore on the “to-do list” consider having gutter covers installed. Covers and guards are available in several different styles and price ranges. If you live in the woods or a new subdivision there is a product for you.
